Astbury Water Sports Centre

Introduction to Climbing Outdoors

Meet at Roaches Gate, Peak District : 26th May | 24th June | 25th August 2018

Meet at Windgather, Cheshire Border : 8th April | 8th July | 1st September 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (1 day course).

For participants aged 7 +.

The cost of the event is £40 pp.

This experience has been designed for participants who are keen to climb or for climbers who have been climbing inside but would like to try something a little different. The session will take place on natural rock, developing the climbers’ confidence.

British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor

23rd – 26th July 2018 (Course is 4 days)

09 : 00 – 15 : 00

The cost of the course is £250pp

For participants aged 16 +

Candidates must hold FSRT or British Canoeing 2 Star

The course introduces the fundamentals of safe, ethical and effective Paddlesport coaching and is available as a bank based or a boat based qualification.

The course prepares coaches for running taster sessions, coaching introductory core skills, coaching paddlers in a variety of craft and coaching in sheltered water.

The course is accredited and certified by British Canoeing.

British Canoeing Foundation Safety & Rescue Training

3rd March | 6th May | 7th July | 2nd September 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 ( 1 day session)

The cost of the course is 70pp

For participants aged 14 +

Candidates must hold British Canoeing 2 Star

This training provides paddlers with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely and be able to deal with common emergencies.

These skills form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout British Canoeing qualifications.

The course is accredited and certified by British Canoeing.

Archery GB Development Award

22nd April | 16th June | 16th September 2018

13 : 30 – 16 : 00 (1/2 day session)

For participants aged 7 +.

The cost of the event is £30 pp.

The course is accredited and certified by Archery GB.

This course is designed to provide beginners with an award as they develop their archery skills. The session includes training and an assessment. An award will be provided depending on the score achieved during the assessment.

Survival Skills

7th April | 3rd June | 6th October 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (1 day course)

For participants aged 7 +.

The cost of the event is £40 pp.

A one day taster session experience designed to give a taste of surviving in the wilderness with limited resources. This will include shelter building, fire lighting, navigation, foraging for food and water purification.

Paddlepower Passport

29th April | 23rd June | 23rd September 2018

13 : 30 – 16 : 00 (1/2 day session)

For participants 7 – 16 years old.

The cost of the course is £30 pp.

Paddlepower Passport is recognised as an equivalent award to British Canoeing 1 Star.

This course is designed to give paddlers the opportunity to learn various paddling skills including embarking and balancing. Paddlers will gain confidence on the water and personal safety skills.

Paddlepower Passport booklet included in the cost. The course is accredited and certified by British Canoeing.

National Navigation Award Scheme – NNAS Bronze

14th & 15th April | 9th & 10th June | 8th & 9th September 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £80 pp.

For participants aged 7 +.

This Navigation Award is a practical hands on course. It has been designed for explorers with no navigation experience.

The course will cover how to operate equipment such as compasses correctly and map reading skills.

The course is accredited and certified by NNAS.

National Navigation Award Scheme – NNAS Silver

12th & 13th May | 14th & 15th July | 13th & 14th October 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £80 pp.

For participants aged 7 +.

Candidates must hold NNAS Bronze Award.

This award develops the navigation skills acquired at the Bronze level. Explorers will learn the skills to navigate to places off the paths and across open country using accurate compass skills.

The course is accredited and certified by NNAS.

NICAS L1 New Climber- National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme

22nd & 29th April | 16th & 23rd June | 16th & 23rd September 2018

10 : 00 – 12 : 30 (2 sessions)

The cost of the course is £40pp

For participants aged 16 +.

NICAS is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing skills.

Level 1 is aimed at novice climbers to recognise their ability to climb safely under supervision.

Trafford Water Sports Centre

RYA Start Windsurfing

31st July & 1st August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

No previous windsurfing experience is required.

The course will introduce the basic windsurfing techniques.

This will include sailing to a chosen point on the water and return to the starting point in light winds.

This course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Stage 1 Windsurfing

2nd & 3rd August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants 7 – 16 years old

No previous windsurfing is required.

The course will introduce sailing to a chosen point on the water and return to the starting point in light winds.

This course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Stage 1 Sailing

23rd & 24th July | 6th & 7th August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants 7 – 16 years old

No previous sailing experience is required.

The course focuses on providing a basic understanding of the skills to launch, recover and steer a sailing boat.

Once completed the participant can progress onto RYA Stage 2 Sailing.

This course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Stage 2 Sailing

25th & 26th July | 8th & 9th August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants 7 – 16 years old

Candidates must hold RYA Stage 1 Sailing

The course develops the practical skills to get you sailing around a course practising tacking and gybing, enabling you to make a progression towards and away from the wind.

Once completed the participant can progress onto RYA Stage 3 Sailing.

This course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Stage 3 Sailing

20th & 21st August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants 7 -16 years old

Candidates must hold RYA Stage 2 Sailing

This course is designed to give sailors the opportunity to learn skills to set up their board and rig correctly, enhance your stance on all points of sailing and introduce basic harness techniques in stronger winds

Once completed the participant can progress onto RYA Stage 4 Sailing.

This course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Stage 4 Sailing

22nd & 23rd August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The course is £120pp.

For participants 7 – 16 years old.

Candidates must hold RYA Stage 3 Sailing.

This course will build on the skills gained in the previous stages. The course content includes blasting around and getting in the foot straps, becoming confident to tack and gybe and sail in their harness with an introduction to basic foot strap technique.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Level 1 Sailing

3rd & 4th April | 13th & 14th August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00  (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the cost is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

No previous sailing experience is required.

The course will introduce the basic sailing techniques.

This will include how to sail in all directions including an awareness of launching and recovering.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Level 2 Sailing

16th & 17th August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

Candidates must hold RYA Level 1 Sailing

The course will build upon the skills required to sail in light winds under supervision.

This will include rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Level 3 Sailing

28th & 29th August 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

Candidates must hold RYA Level 2 Sailing

The course will build upon the skills required to sail and make decisions in good conditions.

This will include becoming more confident in sailing skills and techniques.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Power Boat Level 2

9th & 10th April | 29th & 30th May | 29th & 30th October 2018

09 : 00 – 17: 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

No previous experience is required

This two day entry level award provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat. It is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

The course focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, and introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

RYA Safety Boat Courses

11th & 12th April | 31st May & 1st June | 31st October & 1st November 2018

09 : 00 – 17 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost of the course is £120pp

For participants aged 16 +

Candidates must hold RYA Power Boat Level 1

This course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, canoes or for racing and training activities.

The course includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.

The course is accredited and certified by the Royal Yachting Association.

British Canoeing Bell Boat Helm

17 th & 18th March 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (Course is 2 days)

The cost is £70 pp

For participants aged 18 +

No previous experience is required.

The Bell Boat Helm is aimed at coaches, youth leaders and others who wish to introduce and develop paddlers on Bell Boats for recreation and sport.

The course is accredited and certified by British Canoeing.

British Canoeing Stand Up Paddleboard Support Module

4th April 2018

10 : 00 – 16 : 00 (1 day course)

The cost is £70 pp

For participants aged 16 +

This award is aimed at British Canoe Coaches

The module is designed to assist those who would like to gain further knowledge about the specialist discipline of Stand Up Paddleboarding.

The course introduces and explains the basic techniques and develops an understanding of Stand Up Paddleboarding.

The course is accredited and certified by British Canoeing
