When taking part in outdoor pursuits in the Peak District, it’s important to keep your strength up, which means taking time to refuel with snacks, and of course lunch. Well, you’re out in the great outdoors already, so why not make it a picnic. From the 15th – 24th June is National Picnic Week, and they’ve shortlisted some of the best spots in the UK to have a picnic. We’ve found some favourites of our own from the Peak District and Derbyshire for you to explore on your trip here.

Padley Gorge is a great walking spot, with a trail that can take up to two hours to navigate fully. That’s plenty of time to stop off and have a picnic by the brook. It can get very busy in summer, but on the plus side that usually means there’s an ice cream van or two hovering around!

For somewhere a little more remote, try Slippery Stones. You’ll find this secluded spot on a longer walk, so less families take up the challenge. Sit waterside and enjoy the view of the hills with your picnic, and make sure you fill your belly enough to tackle the walk back to the car.

If you’re seeking out an Instagram moment on your lunch break, Dovedale’s famous stepping stones are a great backdrop, and there’s plenty f space to spread out by the river for picnics. See if you can spot any fossils around, as that’s what the area is also well known for!
