We all know that spending time outdoors is good for us on many levels, from helping us be more active to simply helping us destress while surrounded by nature.

If one of your aims for 2019 is to spend more time in the great outdoors, starting a new hobby is a good way to find the motivation to get outside more often this year.

T3 recently offered some suggestions of top outdoor activities for families to have a go at together.

At the top of the list is stargazing. You’ll get a much better view of the stars above if you head into the countryside away from the light pollution of towns and cities. In winter, when it gets dark early, you don’t even need to have a particularly late night to enjoy the night sky.

You can even get a smartphone app that will help you identify different constellations, while binoculars can be a great way to get a closer look at the stars without having to invest in a telescope.

Hiking is another great activity that will get you out and about with minimum hassle. Take a packed lunch if you’re making a day of it, or just start with some shorter routes to ease yourselves in.

For those of you who love being around water, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is worth a go. Explore rivers, lakes and local stretches of coastline on your SUP once you’ve got your confidence up.

Check out all the things to do in Audley to get some more inspiration of how you and the family can get out and about more this year.

If you get bitten by the outdoor activity bug, you could even plan a camping trip to one of the UK’s 15 national parks where there are numerous things to see and do.
