Trying to think of fun things to do with your family in the school holiday and weekends can be difficult, but Cheshire Live gives the low down of some of the best things to do in Cheshire.

Why not take a trip to Chester Zoo, which was officially named as the best in the UK? You’ll get to meet some of their 21,000 animals and have a great day out. Check out their website for ticket deals and find out what other fun activities are taking place at the zoo in the build up to Christmas.

Visit Ness botanic gardens, located close to Chester, and plant enthusiasts will enjoy strolling around the 64 acres worth of gardens, which were designed and constructed in the 1800s, with views over the beautiful river Dee.

If gazing across the River Dee isn’t enough for you, you could boat across it instead! There are frequent short river cruises you can book, as well longer afternoon tea cruises which pass through the Duke of Westminster’s private estate.

One for the adults and brave teens – take a spooky ghost tour around Chester, where you’ll be guided around some of the towns most haunted historic spots. Tours take place in the evening so look online for booking.

Spend the day at the Hack Green Nuclear bunker, which had remained hidden for over 50 years. You can explore the once government-owned bunker and its vast 35,000 square foot underground quarters. This bomb proof bunker would have housed the regional government officials if a nuclear war had ever happened!
