Over 13 million of us will be heading to other parts of the UK for a break over the Christmas and New Year period this year.
Travel Weekly shared the figures from VisitEngland, which also revealed that substantially more people are planning short breaks this December than last, when 10.3 million people planned an overnight trip as the year came to a close.
And it seems that almost one-quarter of those who are planning to get away around the UK will be looking to enjoy the great outdoors. 23 per cent of those surveyed who are going on short breaks in the coming week said they plan to get involved in outdoor activities.
Cycling and hiking were the most likely activities for people to be trying in December, the news provider noted.
Patricia Yates, VisitEngland director, commented: “From seasonal experiences visiting Christmas markets to enjoying year-round attractions such as walks in the countryside and dining out in restaurants, destinations across the country are tempting Brits to explore beyond their doorstep.”
