The school summer holidays are fast approaching and as a parent it can be a good idea to have some days out planned to give you all something to look forward to and to structure the children’s time off school.

Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spare, there are some great budget-friendly days out you can enjoy as a family. The Sun recently shared some top tips.

At the top of the list is to visit one of the UK’s national parks. You can keep the cost of your day out down by choosing the one closest to where you live and making sure you pack a picnic instead of splashing out for lunch at a restaurant or cafe.

You can go hiking in places like the Peak District or the Lake District and see some truly stunning scenery. But if you want a little bit more adventure there are plenty of things you can do in the Peak District, from climbing and canoeing to archery and bushcraft.

Another top suggestion from the newspaper, and one that’s likely to help you foster a love of the great outdoors in your kids, is going camping. If you don’t have the time for a full-blown camping trip, set up a tent in your back garden and spend a night under canvas there.

You can still have a campfire to cook over and tell stories around, but you’ll have the reassurance of your own home just in case you need it.

Getting your children to engage in outdoor activities was recently suggested as a way to help them succeed and develop valuable life skills like curiosity, creativity and teamwork.
