We all know that the popularity of certain leisure activities can change over time, and it seems that young adults today want to spend their time and money a little differently to their older counterparts.

According to AOL, the likes of nightclubs are seeing falling revenues as fewer people choose to booze it up and dance the night away. Instead, today’s young adults are looking for children’s activities that have been adultified.

The website pointed to the popularity of the adults-only ball pit in central London, which has recently expanded. It noted that research from Mintel found that 37 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds have tried trampolining, with 24 per cent of adults overall stating that they’d had a go at this activity.

Outdoor assault courses are also rising in popularity, with 15 per cent of those surveyed stating that they’d had a go at one, while a further 29 per cent are interested in trying such a course. This climbs to 46 per cent among 18 to 24 year olds.

Helen Fricker, Mintel associate director of leisure, told the news provider that because you need a good level of physical fitness an outdoor assault course isn’t going to appeal to everyone.

“However, their rise in popularity among millennials is reflective of how health and fitness have become almost a status symbol,” she asserted.

This willingness to try these kinds of physical challenges could mean that more people start looking for adventure activities in Derbyshire and elsewhere as a way of doing something different in their leisure time.

Anyone who needs further inspiration should look to the likes of Shauna Coxsey – one of the UK’s top sports climbers. She recently explained that climbing is an incredibly varied sport, which means it’s suitable for people of all levels and with all kinds of interests.
