Have you read Pride & Prejudice? If not, why not? It should be on everyone's literary bucket list. It's an easy and humorous read, and special to us at Peak Pursuits because it's set in Derbyshire. We've put together a quick blog for bookworms to discover the county through this amazing book. Enjoy!

Have you ever read Pride & Prejudice? If not, the question must be asked – why on earth not? It should certainly be on everyone’s literary bucket list and is actually a surprisingly easy read (not to mention really rather humorous)… and it’s very dear to our hearts here at Peak Pursuits because it’s set in large part right here in Derbyshire. As such, we thought we’d put together a quick blog post for bookworms out there looking to discover the county with this amazing book in mind. Enjoy!

Chatsworth House

In the 2005 version of the book (starring Keira Knightley), Chatsworth House in Derbyshire was used for the interior and exterior shots of Mr Darcy’s Pemberley mansion. The house itself is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, passing down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. These days, it’s home to works of art spanning 4,000 years, including masterpieces by the likes of Reynolds, Rembrandt and Veronese.

The Roaches

Do you remember in the BBC adaption (starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth – our particular favourite version, in fact)? There’s a really iconic scene where Lizzie is filmed standing on rocks, looking out over some incredible views of the Peak District – and you can see this same view for yourself if you head to the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks.

Longnor, Derbyshire

If you liked the look of Lambton in the BBC adaptation, you can go and see it for yourself if you head to Chapel Street in Longnor in Derbyshire. Lambton itself was a fictitious place but you’re sure to recognise it as you walk along the streets of the town.

And as an aside, did you know that can also get your hands on the house used in the BBC version of the book for the Bennet family home? If you have a cool £9 million that is, of course!
